Why Children Should Not Watch R Rated Movies

Why Children Should Not Watch Rated R Movies

There are some parents who do not see a problem with their children watching rated R movies. They feel that they raised their children knowing what is good and bad and that their children will not do things that are seen in movies. This is sometimes true and not all children will do what is seen in movies, but that is not the case for all children.

When I was growing up my mother would always watch the rated R movies first before she would let me view them with her. She wanted to know what was in the movie so she could see if it was appropriate for me to see. If there were scenes in the movie that she did not think were appropriate for me to view I would not be able to see that movie or she would watch it with me and tell me that it is not appropriate for me to do what is going on in that scene.

If the movie is showing in theaters, a parent must be present for a child to go into a rated R movie because of the fact that there are scenes in the movie that are not appropriate for children. Different people have different views on this topic, but I am going to give a list of reasons I feel children should not watch rated R movies without a parent viewing the movie first.

1.There is usually some type of violence in rated R movies. Many times there is violence in these movies and some parent do not want their children to see this. If children see violence and fighting in a movie, many times this makes them think it is okay. This sometimes makes children become more violent with their peers and causes many problems with them making friends and causes them problems at school.

2.There are sex scenes. In many rated R movies there are sex scenes. This is not appropriate for children to see because many times there is nudity that is shown and it gets in great detail. No child should see this because they do not know what sex is about. This sometimes causes children at young ages to want to experiment with sex and can cause many problems for that child.

3.Drug and alcohol use. There are sometimes scenes where people are doing drugs or drinking large amounts of alcohol. As adults, we know the consequences of using these items or consuming too much of alcohol. Children on the other hand will see actors or actresses using these items and may want to experiment with the items. It can harm anyone, especially children, to consume these items. Therefore, children should know that this is bad before they view the movie or they should not view the movie at all if the parent is afraid of their children seeing this.

4.The use of bad language In the world today it is hard to not get a child to say curse words. There are many parents who use curse words in front of their child and the child goes to school and uses this same language. Even though you teach your child not to use bad language, they are around it many times at school. Today there is also a lot of music that uses this language, so children are surrounded by this bad language anywhere they go. If a child watches an R rated movie, it is likely that there will be bad language involved. There are some cases where the child will hear new bad words and start using those words or they will find it okay to use these words because it was used in the movie. They feel many times that the parent let them watch the movie and hear the bad language so it is okay for them to use the same words. This is not the case though. No child should be using this language so if you do let your child watch the movie, make sure they know that those are not appropriate words for them to use.

There are several other reasons why a movie is rated R but these are the main reasons why children are advised not to view these movies. If a parent watches the movie first to see what is in the movie and they decide there is nothing too inappropriate in the movie then that is their choice if they let their children see the movie. It is advised that the parent watch the movie with the child so they can tell the child what is not appropriate for them or so the parent can answer questions that the child has.
